Smart Pooling: AI-powered COVID-19 Testing

The Center for Research and Formation in Artificial Intelligence at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, is the first academic Center for the study of Artificial Intelligence in Latin America and is led by Prof. Pablo Arbeláez. The focus of the Center lies in three pillars: research and innovation, academic excellence and the study of legal and ethical consequences of AI.

Gencore is the sequencing laboratory of Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, in which COVID-19 tests are carried out with the endorsement of the Ministry of Health. The laboratory is led by Dr. Silvia Restrepo, PhD, the Vice-president for research of the University. She has been the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences of the University and the Dean of the School of Science. GenCore relies on the expertise of an interdisciplinary team of biologists, microbiologists, bacteriologists, physicians and engineers.

Smart Pooling The Gambia

We are currently collaborating with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Gambian Molecular Research Center, in order to deploy Smart Pooling nationwide in The Gambia and in other West African countries.
